Rock ’n’ Rollski comes from a combination soundboard-and-ambient-microphone recording of The Eat's performance at the Polish American Club of Hollywood. This series of shows was organized by Ted Gottfried of Open Books and Records (with at least a little help from Walter CZ). The motive wasn’t revenue, but venue.
As Eddie O’Brien makes clear during the course of this performance, original music clubs had all but dried up during this time. The Eat were headliners at this, the inaugural show at the PAC, along with the Essentials (their performance that night is featured here) and Charlie Pickett and the Eggs, a triumvirate of the SoFla scene at the time.
Unfortunately, a few weeks later, former Reactions guitarist Issac (Smilin’ Ike) Baruch decided to single-handedly finish it off by pissing all over the bathroom and punching Walter in the face. The ensuing melee was documented to disasterous effect by a Ft. Lauderdale News reporter who was there to cover the show.
So there is such a thing as bad press after all.
